Ladle Club.

Hosting, minus the admin

Your people.
One table.
Every week.

The tool behind a supper club, a food club, or any small group that eats together. You pick the date and who sits down. It keeps the seats, the menu and the money straight, so the evening more or less runs itself.

Private clubs. Someone already there has to let you in.

Why groups like this fall apart

Never the cooking. Always the organising.

The same person ends up doing the dull half every month, until they stop offering. These are the three jobs we take off them.

Chasing a headcount

A thread with fourteen people in it is not a headcount.

Seats are claimed, not guessed. The host sees who is actually coming, and closes the list when the table is full.

Splitting the bill

Nobody wants to be the person asking friends for money.

A seat has a price before anyone sits down. It comes off a running balance, so nobody is ever asked for cash at a table.

Remembering everything

Who is allergic to what. Who offered to cook and got passed over.

It is written down where the evening is already being organised, so the group stops depending on one person's memory.

What the host actually gets

A calendar, a menu, and a running total.

That is the whole thing. No feed, no discovery, no strangers. Whoever is organising opens a date and everyone else finds out what is being cooked on Thursday and whether there is room for them.

Clubs run in Kochi, Leeds, Rome and Austin, each in the currency they actually pay in. Nothing here assumes a country or a cuisine.

How an evening comes together

From an empty date to people eating.

  1. 1

    Open a date

A date, what a seat costs, and how the evening works.

  2. 2

    Sort the food

Somebody offers to cook, or everyone brings a dish, or you book a table.

  3. 3

    Fill the seats

People ask to come. The host says who sits down.

  4. 4

    Settle up

A price a seat, the cost divided, or nothing at all.

  5. 5

    Say how it was

Anonymous to whoever cooked. Honest, therefore useful.

Not only dinner

For every private occasion.

A club is a group of people and a table. What you put on it is up to you.

  • supper clubs
  • a Sunday lunch
  • book club
  • birthdays
  • game night
  • a farewell
  • Diwali
  • a new baby
  • Christmas
  • a housewarming
  • a potluck
  • Friday, because it is Friday

No invitation yet?

Ask for a place at a table.

We are opening this slowly, a few tables at a time, so it stays the kind of thing you would actually want to eat at. Tell us whether you want to run a table or eat at one.
