Jobs
We are small and we hire rarely. When we do, this is what we are looking for and how to reach us.
What is open right now
Nothing, honestly. We are a small team, we hire rarely, and we would rather say so than keep a page of aspirational listings up to make the company look bigger than it is.
That said, we read everything that arrives, and the best people we have worked with wrote first and waited. If that is you, the rest of this page is what we would want to know.
The kind of work it is
A small codebase, held deliberately small. TypeScript front to back, React on the front, Firebase underneath, and a shared domain module that the browser and the server both compile against so a rule cannot drift between them.
Everyone here works close to the product. There is no separate layer of people who decide what gets built. If you write the thing, you also argued for it, and you will hear from the hosts using it within about a day.
What we look for
People who can write. Not documentation exactly, but the ability to say what a thing does, plainly, in a sentence that survives contact with someone who was not in the room. It correlates with everything else more strongly than anything on a CV.
A bias for less. The most useful work here is usually a feature we decided not to build, or one we removed. If your instinct on being handed a vague brief is to make it smaller, we should talk.
Some feeling for the actual subject. You do not have to be a cook. You do have to have organised something for a group of people and found out how annoying it is.
How to write in
Email jobs@ladleclub.com with something you have made and a paragraph about why this. No cover letter in the formal sense, and no need for a portfolio site. A link and a plain explanation is the whole ask.
We reply to everything, though not always quickly. If a role opens that fits, you will hear from us before it is posted anywhere.
